Perennial shrub to 2 m high, usually single-stemmed from rootstock, each stem branched many times; evergreen. Leaves alternate, not clustered in rosette on flowering stems; blade obovate, 50-70 mm long, 7-16 mm wide, upper surface dark glossy green, lower surface pale green; tip acuminate; base tapered; petiole filiform, 13-30 mm long. Floral heads without rays. Cyathia about 5 mm wide, with red 'petaloid' fimbriate lobes; glands 4, elliptic, yellow.
