Tree to about 20 m tall,mostly narrow to cone-shaped, the branches of mature trees sweeping the ground. Leaves obovate to elliptic, 10-15 cm long, 4-5 cm wide, pointed, entire or with a few teeth, glossy above, bluish below, red in autumn. Flowers insignificant and on long stalks; spring. Fruits in clusters of 1-3, blue-black and with a waxy bloom,1-1.5 cm long; seed ribbed.

The names, 'Autumn Cascades' and 'Pendula', are listed but details unlocated.

Grows naturally on hillsides in both wet and dry forests.
