Mostly spreading to climbing shrub. Leaves to 10 cm long, simple, ovate, more or less opposite, long-pointed, pale below. Flower clusters axillary or terminal, dense. Flowers bright red, with prominent bracts. Fruit ovate with 5 shallow ribs.
