Densely hairy perennial herb or subshrub. Leaves linear to ovate, more or less stalkless, grey-green, sometimes toothed. Flowers reddish orange. Petals about 1-1.5 cm long. Syn. Zauschneria californica C. Presl var. microphylla A. Gray.
