Mostly erect shrub to about 3 m tall. Leaves 1-1.5 cm long, appearing formal and symmetrical in 2 rows, covered with silver hair. Flowers crimson, in terminal spikes about 3-5 cm long, anthers yellow; spring. Fruits in dense clusters.

A highly ornamental shrub distinguished from R. ciliata and R. megacephala by the spectacular silvery foliage and fiery crimson flowers.
