Hypocalymma (Endl.) Endl.

Greek hypo — below, kalymma — hood, referring to the hood-like cap of the calyx when in bud.

Mostly small shrubs. Leaves opposite, decussate, stalkless. Flowers 1-4 in the leaf axils, stalked or not. Flower tube cup-shaped. Sepals and petals 5, often persistent. Stamens numerous, shortly fused into a ring at the base, as long as or just longer than the petals. Ovary of 2-3 chambers. Fruit a 2-3-valved capsule.

Grown for the attractive flowers and foliage.
