Strickland's Gum

Tree growing to mostly 10 m tall. Bark dark and rough at the base, smooth, brown or grey above. Juvenile leaves alternate, broad. Adult leaves lanceolate, blade 10-13 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, green, glossy. Leaf stalk 2-3.5 cm long. Common stalk waxy, thick, flattened, mostly 2-3 cm long. Flowers about 4 cm wide, bright yellow. Fruits finely ribbed, mostly 1.5 cm long and wide, valves 3-5, protruding.

Grows naturally on high ground in woodland between Coolgardie and Norseman. Planted along highways of W and N Vic.

Buds waxy, at least at base of stalk; flowers brightly conspicuous; individual fruits bell-shaped and stalkless.
