Scarlet Pear Gum

Narrow-trunked tree to mostly 5 m tall. Juvenile leaves ovate. Adult leaves ovate to lanceolate; blade 6-8 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, glossy, dark green. Leaf stalk 4-sided, mostly 14-16 mm long. Flowers pale yellow, solitary, the common stalk swollen, flattened and curved; Jan-May. Fruits with 6-10 ribs, 2.5-3.5 cm long, 2.5-3 cm wide. Syn. E. forrestiana Diels subsp. stoatei C.A. Gardner.

Grows naturally in sandy heathland in SC WA near Jerdacuttup River.

Distinguished from E. forrestiana by the large, 6-10-ribbed buds and fruits.
