Salt River Gum

Tree to mostly 10 m tall. Bark flaky at the base then smooth, shiny, grey-brown. Juvenile leaves lanceolate. Adult leaves narrow-lanceolate; blade mostly 5-10 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide. Leaf stalk mostly 1 cm long. Flowers mostly to 7, common stalk mostly 1-2.5 cm long, individual stalks mostly 2-5 mm long. Flower caps longpointed. Fruits mostly 8 mm long, 5-7 mm wide.

Grows naturally in open woodland, SW WA, E of Perth, often in salty soils, hence its value as a salt-tolerant species.

Planted in NW Vic and also often in schoolgrounds elsewhere in the state.
