Candlebark

Tree to 40 m tall. Bark smooth, white or reddish throughout. Juvenile leaves opposite, stalkless, stem-clasping, roundish, waxy-white. Adult leaves long, narrow, lanceolate to narrow lanceolate; blade mostly 10-15 cm long, 1-2.5 cm wide, bluish white, both surfaces same colour. Leaf stalk cylindrical, mostly 1.5-2.5 cm long. Flowers white, in 3s, common stalk angled or flattened, 4-8 mm long, individual stalks absent or to 3 mm long; Feb-Apr. Fruits often waxy-white, 4-6 mm long, 5-7 mm wide.

Grows naturally on high ground in woodland and open forest.

White- and red-patched bark, especially in summer, smooth to the ground; lower trunk scarred horizontally; flowers in almost stalkless, crossshaped 3s (cf. E. viminalis). Closely related to E. dalrympleana which has different bark, roundish juvenile leaves and mostly larger fruit.
