Risdon Peppermint

Habit variable, mallee, shrub or tree to mostly 6 m tall. Bark smooth, pale grey, occasionally with pink blotches. Juvenile leaves more or less round and often persisting on adult plant, free and stalkless at first, later fused at the base, waxy-grey, the same colour on both surfaces. Adult leaves, if present, lanceolate; blade mostly 7-10 cm long, 1.5-2 cm wide. Leaf stalk 7-15 mm long. Flowers creamy white, in large clusters of 7-15, with common stalk 0.5-2.5 cm long, individual stalks 0-3 mm long; Nov-Feb. Fruits mostly 7-10 mm long and wide.

Grows naturally near Hobart on sloping shrubby ground between Risdon and Cambridge.

Tas.

Mostly shrubby habit and persistent waxy-grey juvenile leaves, free and stalkless at first, becoming fused at the base and leaving characteristic scars around the stems. The closely related E. tenuiramis is a tree with less persistent juvenile leaves and longer fruits with broader rims.
