Mallee mostly 2-4 m tall, straggling. Bark smooth, grey. Juvenile leaves opposite, stalkless, grey-white. Adult leaves opposite, stalkless, broadly ovate to elliptic with a small point at the tip, blade mostly 9-12 cm long, 5-8 cm wide, dull. Flowers red (occasionally pink or pale yellow), solitary, on a single thick stalk 6-10 mm long; Sept-Dec. Fruits 3-5 cm long, 5-9 cm wide.

Grows naturally in sandy heathland in SW WA.

Pale grey-blue foliage; massive fruits. The closely related E. rhodantha Rose has longer flower stalks (1-2 cm) and smaller fruits.
