Cider Gum

Tree to mostly 20 m tall or more. Bark smooth throughout, white or grey-green, occasionally unpeeled at the base of the trunk. Juvenile leaves opposite, stalkless, stem-clasping, round-toothed, grey-green. Adult leaves elliptic to ovate or lanceolate; blade 5-8 cm long, 1.2-3 cm wide, grey-green, same colour on both sides. Leaf stalk cylindrical, 1-2 cm long. Flowers creamy white in 3s, common stalk angular, 5-9 mm long, individual stalks absent or 1-2 mm long; Jan-Feb. Fruits cylindrical or urn-shaped, 6-9 mm long, 4-7 mm wide.

Grows naturally on the central plateau in moist soils, also in the vicinity of Hobart.
