Bogong Gum

Tree growing naturally to 25 m or so tall. Bark rough with longitudinal fissures for most of trunk, smooth and white above. Juvenile leaves opposite, stalkless, more or less round, waxy-blue. Adult leaves lanceolate, sometimes sickle-shaped, mostly 20-30 cm long, 2.5-4 cm wide, blue-grey, glossy. Leaf stalk mostly 2-3.5 cm long. Flowers white, in 3s, common stalk flattened or angled, 6-8 mm long, individual flower stalks 2-4 mm long; Dec-Feb. Buds 3-5 mm long and wide. Fruits mostly 8-12 mm long, 8-10 mm wide, mostly waxy-blue, rim domed, valves 4.

Grows naturally from the slopes of the Kiewa Valley and Mt Bogong in Vic, and montane S NSW.
