Stiff straggly shrub to 4 m tall. Leaves thick, rigid, narrowly oblanceolate,mostly 3-5 cm long, 4-7 mm wide with a sharp point, lateral veins obscure but oil glands prominent, especially on the lower surface, and usually rough to touch. Flower spike mostly 5-8 cm long, 4-5 cm wide with a hairy axis; summer to autumn. Filaments dark crimson, rarely pink or violet, anthers bright yellow. Fruit mostly 7-8 mm long, 6-9 mm wide. Syn.
