Shrub to 3 m tall. Leaves sub-erect, linear, often thick and almost cylindrical,1-2 cm long, 0.75-1.5 mm wide, sharply pointed, oil glands mostly on lower surface. Flower spikes mostly 3-4 cm long, 1.5-2.2 cm wide, axis hairy at flowering; summer.
Filaments golden yellow or cream, sometimes tinged with green or pink. FRUIT 3-5 mm wide. Syn. C. sieberi of some authors. C. viridiflorus (Sims) Sweet, Green-flowered Bottlebrush, from Tas is occasionally grown; it is similar but has greenish yellow flower spikes 2-3.5 cm wide.
