Shrub to about 0.7 m tall. Leaves narrowly obovate, mostly 5-12 cm long, to 1 cm wide, tough, bent back at the tip, blunt or sharply pointed. Flower clusters terminal or axillary, solitary, ovoid to spherical, to 2.5 cm long. Flowers to 3.5 cm long, greyish pink or mauve to almost white, silky-hairy; spring. Fruiting cones ovoid, to 2.5 cm long.
