Shrub to about 1.5 m tall. Leaves simple, cylindrical, rough, to 1 cm or so long, sometimes sharply pointed. Flower clusters terminal, spherical to ovoid, 1-2 cm wide. Flowers 2.2 cm long, yellow, hairy; spring to early summer. Fruiting cones ovoid, to 2 cm wide.
