Large shrub or small tree to 6 m or so tall, some forms pendulous. Leaves narrowly obovate, 10-20 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, pointed, 3-7 prominent longitudinal veins, leaf stalk long. Flower clusters round, cream, changing to pink or red; mostly May-July. Fruit smooth or rough, mostly 2.5-3.5 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, with a broad beak; seed surrounded by a membranous wing.
The most widely grown Hakea. Hardy in a range of climates.
