Scallops

Erect shrub to about 5 m tall with rusty-hairy new growth. Leaves to about 6 cm long and wide, oblong and toothed at first, becoming cupped, stiff and leathery. Flower clusters axillary, partly obscured within the leaves; winter to early spring. Flowers pink or occasionally white, with segments bent back. Fruit 2-3 cm long, ovoid, beaked.

May be confused with H. conchifolia, which has serrated leaves.
