Prostrate, trailing shrub. Leaves oblong, ovate or elliptic, to about 10 cm long, 4 cm wide with about 7-20 spiny teeth or triangular lobes (sometimes further divided), lower surface lightly hairy or hairless, margin slightly rolled under. Flower clusters erect or bent over, unbranched, 1-sided. Flowers pale green or grey with reddish stripes, slightly hairy outside, hairless inside; spring to summer. Style deep red. Fruits hairy, red-striped.
