Shrub or small tree to 10 m or more tall. Leaves to 40 cm or so long, pinnately divided into 12-28 narrow linear lobes that are occasionally divided again, lower surface with 2 ridges or silky-hairy where exposed. Flower clusters long, erect, unbranched, 1-sided. Flowers grey-green or white and hairy outside, orange-red and hairless inside; mainly winter to spring. Style orange. Fruit hairy.
A tropical species that will grow as far south as the Sydney region. A prostrate form is sometimes available.
