Dense shrub 1-2 m tall. Leaves to 7 cm long, about 1 mm wide, rigid, forked, extremely prickly. Flower clusters 1-sided, often hanging. Flowers red, orange or orange-yellow; winter to spring. Style red or orange but generally pale at the tip. Fruit rough.
