Spreading shrub to 5 m or so tall. Leaves linear to narrow-lanceolate, to 25 cm long and 2 cm wide, entire or with large teeth 1-1.5 cm apart and cut to the midrib. Flower clusters 1-sided. Flowers generally silky-hairy outside, styles burgundy; mostly July-Nov. Fruit striped or blotched.
