Shrub to 30 cm tall. Leaves ovate or narrowly ovate in outline, the tip elongatetriangular, margins spiny-toothed or lobed to almost entire, to 4 cm long, 2.5 cm wide. Flowers 1-4 together, about 1 cm long, deep yellow to apricot with yellow markings; spring to early summer. Fruit pod 1-1.5 cm long.
Appears to intergrade with C. cordatum in the wild.
