Tree or occasionally shrub to about 10 m tall. New growth hairy. Leaves simple, elliptic to ovate, mostly 7-12 cm long, white-felted below, with 9-14 vein pairs, double-toothed except at the base. Flowers white; spring. Fruit about 1 cm wide, orange-red.

Leaves silvery on both surfaces at first and yellowish above, white below, slightly smaller than in the type. Fruits orange-red. Int. by the Simon-Louis Nsy, Metz, France, pre-1885.
