Deciduous upright or scrambling shrub to about 3 m tall, without prickles. Leaves simple, more or less deltoid, to 25 cm long, with 5 lobes, saw-toothed, hairy below, cordate; stipules lanceolate. Flowers purplish, in many-flowered, branched clusters, fragrant; mostly summer. Fruit broad and flattish, reddish.
