Erect shrub to 5 m tall. Leaves 2-4 cm long, to 0.5-1 cm wide, obovate, roundtoothed, especially towards the tip. Flowers with calyx tube hairless outside; spring to summer. Fruit about 1 cm wide, mostly orange red; autumn to winter.
f. flava hort. has butter yellow berries.
SW China. Naturalised on the N and S Tablelands of NSW.
Inflorescence and calyx mostly without hair; differs from P. crenulata in having white-hairy new growth and smaller leaves that are clearly widest towards the tip.
