Shrub to 3 m tall. Leaves narrowly obovate, mostly 3-6 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide, margin entire or round-toothed, tip blunt. Flowers with calyx and flower stems downy-haired; late spring to early summer. Fruit about 1 cm wide, scarlet when mature in autumn. Syn. P. fortuneana (Maxim.) Li, P. yunnanensis Chitt.
NW China. Naturalised on the C and S Tablelands of NSW.
Inflorescence downy-haired; leaves characteristically broadest towards the blunt tip and tapering towards the base.
