Pyracantha coccinea M.Roem.

Erect shrub to about 5 m tall with downy young shoots. Leaves occasionally in whorls at the base of the thorns,mostly elliptic but variable, 2.5-5 cm long, 0.5-2 cm wide, margin with rounded saw-teeth, dull green and hairless below. Flowers with calyx and flower stems slightly hairy; mid- to late spring. Fruit 8-9 mm wide, orange red, glossy; summer.

SE Europe.

Leaves with a pointed tip; calyx and flower stalks hairy.

Pyracantha coccinea 'Lalandei'

, Lalande Firethorn. Larger dark orange-red fruits and leaves than the species. Raised by m. Lalande, nurseryman of Nantes, France, who selected this clone in 1847 from a batch of seedlings.
