A shrub 2-3 m tall. Leaves ovate, to about 8 cm long, irregularly toothed and with mostly 3 small lobes. Flowers numerous, about 1 cm wide, white; summer. Fruit of 3-5 follicles united at the base

Physocarpus opulifolius 'Dart'

S gold' a smaller plant than 'Luteus', retaining the yellow foliage colour through to summer. Int. by Darthuizer Nurseries, Holland, in 1969 but origin unknown.

Leaves bright butter yellow at first, becoming greenish yellow to bronze.
