Malus spectabilis (Aiton) Borkh.

Shrub or small tree to about 7 m tall. Young shoots downy. Leaves elliptic-oblong, to about 7 cm long, downy below, saw-toothed, occasionally 2-lobed at the base. Flowers 4-5 cm wide, profuse, deep pink, fading with age, sometimes semi-double; spring. Fruit to about 2.5 cm wide, yellow, calyx persistent.
