Holodiscus (K.Koch) Maxim.

Greek holo — whole, entire; diskos — disk, referring to the entire floral disk.

Deciduous shrubs or occasionally small trees. Leaves alternate, simple, toothed or lobed, hairy below; stipules absent. Flower clusters terminal, branched, hairy, of numerous small flowers. Flowers with 5 deltoid sepals. Petals 5, roundish. Stamens 20, set on a disk. Ovary superior. Carpels 5, free, hairy, each containing 2 ovules. Fruit of 5 1-seeded achenes.

Border shrubs used for their arching branches and plumed clusters of small creamy flowers.

Seed, semi-hardwood cuttings or layers.

Shrubs with stipules absent; fruit of 5 hairy achenes.
