Duchesnea Smith

Commemorating Antoine Nicolas Duchesne (1747–1827), student of the strawberry.

Perennial stoloniferous herbs. Leaves basal, with 3 leaflets. Flowers in flat-topped clusters, rarely solitary. Epicalyx usually present. Petals mostly 5 (occasionally more), yellow. Stamens numerous. Carpels numerous. Receptacle bright red, not juicy, eventually brightly coloured, the achenes on the surface of the fruit or in small pits.

6 species from India and SE Asia.

Seed, division or stolons.

Strawberry-like plants with bright yellow flowers and leathery fruits.
