Evergreen shrub mostly 1-2 m tall. Branches arching, reddish. Leaves about 10-15 cm, lanceolate and tapering to a fine point, margins spiny toothed. Flowers in axillary clusters about 5 cm long, individual flowers white; spring. [L. catesbaei (Walter) A. Gray]
