Common Beard Heath

Narrow shrub. Branchlets hairy. Leaves ovate, to about 2 cm long with the edges curled inwards to form a concave surface, lower surface with 3 parallel veins, stalk absent. Flowers in groups of 4-7; mostly spring. Floral tube about 1.5-2.5 mm long, hairy in the throat. Fruit oblong, about 1.5 mm wide.

Grows naturally in heath and woodland sandy soils.

Leaves more or less stalkless and with the edges curled upwards.
