Erect shrub to about 1 m tall. Branchlets hairy. Leaves ovate to more or less round, thick. Flowers along the branchlets, white, sometimes pinkish at first; mostly spring. Flower tube short, to 3 mm long.

Grows naturally in heathland and sclerophyll forest on sandy soils.
Both white and pink flowered forms are grown.
Flower tube less than 3 mm long, shorter than sepals; leaf base more or less heart-shaped.
