Hibiscus syriacus L.

Rose-of-Sharon

Erect deciduous shrub 2-3 m tall. Leaves mostly more than 8 cm long, deeply 3-lobed with large, sometimes rounded saw-teeth. Epicalyx bracts 6-8. Flowers single or double with many cultivars in a range of colours; summer to autumn. Staminal column shorter than the petals.

Hibiscus syriacus 'Ardens'

Flowers semi-double to 9 cm wide, soft lavender to mauve with a large crimson eye, petaloids in the centre slightly paler. Habit medium shrub to 3 m tall.

Hibiscus syriacus 'Coelestis'

Flowers single, to 7 cm wide, pale violet with a reddish basal spot radiating out through the petals. Habit tall shrub to 4 m tall.

Hibiscus syriacus 'Diana'

Flowers single, overlapping, to 13 cm wide, pure white. Habit a low shrub to 1.5 m tall.

Hibiscus syriacus 'Hino Maru'

Flowers single, overlapping, to 12 cm wide, white with a red eye. Habit low shrub to 1.5 m tall.
