Aristotelia L'Hér.

A name commemorating the Greek philosopher Aristotle.

Trees or small shrubs. Leaves mostly opposite, simple; margins toothed; stipules present but small. Flowers bisexual, rarely unisexual, parts in 4s or 5s; disc present. Stamens mostly 5-15 opening by apical slits. Ovary 2-4 chambered; ovules 2 per chamber. Fruit a berry.

5 species from Australia, New Zealand, Chile to Peru (2 species are endemic to Australia, from New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania but not cultivated).
