Magnolia ×wiesneri Carr.

(probably m. hypoleuca × m. sieboldii) Bushy deciduous tree or large shrub. Leaves mostly 15-20 cm long in loose false whorls, broadly elliptic to obovate, waxy blue and finely downy below, lateral veins in 10-15 pairs. Flowers erect, cup-shaped, segments 6-9, whitish, outer segments becoming pinkish, stamens rose coloured; spring. [m. הwatsonii Hook f.]

Imported to UK from Japan at the end of the 19th century.

Leaves often in false whorls, waxy blue and finely downy below.
