Common Purslane

Hairless annnual. Leaves flat and fleshy, to 3.5 cm long, more or less spoon-shaped wth rounded tips, tapering to the base. Flowers yellow, 1-2 cm wide, petals yellow, notched at the tip. Stamens 11 or more. Style branches 4-6. Ovary half inferior. Fruit capsule opening by a lid.

Weedy species occasionally grown as a herb for use in salads a subsp. sativa (Haw.) Celak.
