Opuntia basilaris Engelm. & Bigelow

Clump forming to 50 cm or so tall. Segments obovate to almost round, flattened or notched at the tip, to 20 cm long and 14 cm wide, often reddish on the margins. Glochids reddish. Spines 0-1(5), short. Flowers to 7 cm wide, purplish red. Fruit dry, spherical to obovoid.
