Gymnocalycium quehlianum (Haage) A.Berger

Body mostly compressed spherical, dull, grey-green to brownish, sometimes becoming purplish. Ribs 8-11, tuberculate. Central spines 0, radial spines mostly 5, to about 5 mm long, pressed to the stem. Flowers to 4 cm wide, white outside with a red throat.

Other species also with white flowers and a red throast include G. fleischerianum Backeb. from N Paraguay which is similar to G. quehlianum but with longer spines to about 2 cm long, and G. vatteri Buining from N Argentina which has mostly 1-3 spines to 3 cm long.
