Echinopsis aurea Britton & Rose

Body solitary or in clusters, shortly cylindrical, ribs 11-15. Central spines 1(-4) to 3 cm long, radial spines 7-10, to 1 cm long. Flowers bright yellow deeper coloured inside tube.

Argentina

This is one of the bright-flowered diurnal species.

Other commonly encountered diurnal species include: E. tegeleriana (Backeb.) D.R. Hunt from C Peru which is more or less spherical with flowers pinkish in the throat and stems and E. huascha (F.A.C. Weber) Friedrich & Rowley from Argentina with long cylindrical stems 4-5 cm wide, both have flowers reddish to orange or yellow outside.
