Body solitary, globular to cylindrical to 15 cm long, 7-9 cm wide with 5-9 prominent ribs. Areoles woolly with 1 central spine to 5 mm and 3-8 radial spines, or almost spineless at maturity. Flowers yellow, 8 cm wide.
