Body round to elongate, 10-50 cm high, 10 cm wide with 8 acute ribs. Areoles with up to 1-20 flattened, curved spines 3-10 cm long. Flowers yellow, reddish in throat, 6-10 cm in wide. Fruit breaking open irregularly. [A. crassispinum (Moeller) Haage & Sad.]
