Spiny climber. Branches downy or hairless. Leaves downy at first, becoming hairless or slightly hairy below, more or less elliptic, tapering at base and tip, size variable. Bracts mostly 3-4.5 cm long, pinkish red to purplish. Perianth white to yellowish, more or less hairless to downy and with a dense covering of short, upwardly curved hairs.
