Small evergreen plant to about 20-30 cm tall. Basal leaves dark green, leathery, arching back (pedate); leaflets 7-9. Flowers mostly single, occasionally in groups of 2-3. Segments white with a greenish tinge at the base, aging purplish, mostly 5-8 cm wide; winter-spring. Carpels 5-8, fused at the base.
