Evergreen herb with rather woody stems to about 80 cm tall, dying back. Basal leaves absent; stem leaves thick, dark green, edges curved back and bearing 7-10 leaflets with toothed edges. Flowers 1.5-2.5 cm wide in terminal clusters on leafy stems, bell-shaped, green (occasionally tinged purple at the tips), hanging down; winter-spring. Carpels 3, fused at the base. Fruit follicles remaining on the plant for a long period.
