Aquilegia flabellata Siebold & Zucc.

Herb to about 50 cm tall. Leaves waxy blue to purple especially below. Flowers few, nodding. Sepals violet, spreading. Petals lilac with a pale yellow tip. Spurs lilac, strongly hooked, to 2 cm long. Stamens not projecting; late spring. Fruit follicles hairless.

Japan

Several cultivars are available including 'Alba' which has white flowers.

var. pumila Kudo Plant and leaflets smaller.
